THEATRE
Call for actors: Alaska Theatre of Youth is holding auditions for “Stuart Little” and a musical production of “Alice in Wonderland.” The directors will be auditioning both shows together. Come prepared to do cold readings from the script and dressed to move. Those auditioning for “Alice In Wonderland” should prepare a short song to be performed without accompaniment. If participants do not yet read, come prepared to share a memorized poem, nursery rhyme or joke. Auditions 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Alaska Theatre of Youth, 3142 Mountain View Drive. VISUAL ARTS
Call for artists: The Denali Arts Council in Talkeetna invites artists to participate in the Second Saturday group show “In the Spirit of Joseph Cornell.” The exhibit will pay tribute to the late Cornell, an artist, sculptor and filmmaker known for three-dimensional collages in boxes. Submissions need to be before Wednesday. Contact Talkeetna Artists Guild director Emily La Porte (emily@denaliartscouncil.org) for more details.
Call for artists: The Alaska Railroad Corporation is soliciting submissions for its annual commemorative artwork program. Submissions should be a thumbnail sketch no larger than 11 inches by 17 inches. The idea must include an Alaska Railroad theme in order to be considered, with additional consideration given to entries focusing on Seward. The chosen artist will be paid $3,000 in return for participation in signing events in Anchorage and Fairbanks. ARRC retains all rights to the artwork. Call for designers and artists: Object Runway will be held at the Bear Tooth Theatrepub Thursday, Jan. 27, and features hundreds of works by local artists and designers, guest judge Leanne Marshall, winner of Project Runway season five. Register at igcaalaska.org to participate, $10 per design.
Call for artists: Denali National Park and Preserves’ Artist-in-Residence Program is accepting applications from visual artists through Sunday. Applications and more information is available at nps.gov. Up to four artists will be selected to reside in the East Park cabin for 10 days, between June and mid-September. Artists will donate a piece of artwork inspired by their stay to the park’s collection and offer a public presentation for visitors upon the end of their residency. Call to poets and translators: Poetry journal “Ice Floe” is seeking submissions for its 2011 volume. Poets and translators from Alaska, Northern Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Northern Russia are encouraged to submit new work. Selections will be printed in their original language along with the English translation. No more than five poems accepted. For more information, email icefloe@uaa.alaska.edu. The same contact can be used to submit work, or they can be mailed to address below. Include a brief biographical paragraph with submissions.
